Pigmentation is persistent. But it's not permanent with the right plan.
PIGMENTATION Treatments PerthDark patches, post-breakout marks, sun damage, melasma. They're related but they're not the same thing, and they don't all respond to the same treatment. Getting to the cause is everything.
Your skin, understood.
Your skin, understood.
What causes pigmentation?
Pigmentation occurs when melanin is produced unevenly. This can be triggered by UV exposure, hormonal changes, inflammation or injury to the skin. The result is patches or areas that appear darker than the surrounding tissue.
The most common types we see: sun damage and age spots, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation from acne or injury, melasma triggered by hormones or contraception, and general uneven tone from slower cell turnover. Each has a different origin and a different treatment pathway.
What makes pigmentation worse?
The most important thing to understand about pigmentation: treating it without removing the trigger is largely ineffective.
The most common drivers and aggravating factors are:
01 | UV exposure without adequate SPF, the primary driver of most forms of pigmentation
02 | Hormonal fluctuations, particularly oestrogen which directly stimulates melanin production
03 | Heat, including saunas, hot yoga and hot showers for melasma-prone skin
04 | Inflammation from acne, eczema or aggressive skincare
05 | Using brightening actives incorrectly or without adequate SPF support
06 | Some medications and contraceptives
Pigmentation comes back when the trigger stays. We address both.
These are the treatments we work with. The right combination, in the right order, at the right time. That's what we figure out together.

How We WorkThe Skin Room approach.
Five commitments that don't change regardless of what you come in for. This is how every client at Skin Room Perth is treated, every time.
01
We take the time to understand your skin before we recommend anything, because the right treatment starts with the right diagnosis
02
We look at what's driving your skin, not just what's visible on the surface, because treating the symptom without understanding the cause never delivers lasting results
03
You leave with a written plan, not a product recommendation, because your skin journey needs a roadmap not a receipt
04
Every treatment is followed up within 3 to 4 days because your skin doesn't stop changing when you leave the room
05
Free 15-minute check-ins are always available because we want to know it's working and you should never feel like you're navigating it alone
